Whoever carried out the original inspection is fine by me. 1. **Provide the original EICR:** Ensure the full inspection report and circuit schedules are available before work begins. 2. **Clear access to distribution boards:** Keep area around main switchgear, distribution boards, and affected equipment clear of stock or obstacles. 3. **Notify affected staff:** Power interruptions may be necessary while circuits are isolated and repairs are carried out. ## What you are left with Each item is signed off as it is completed, and you get the paperwork the same day the work finishes, with a plain English note of what was done and anything you have chosen to leave for later. - **A satisfactory report:** Once all C1, C2, and FI items are rectified, an updated report confirms the installation is satisfactory. - **Certificates for the new work:** You receive Electrical Installation Certificates or Minor Works Certificates for the specific replacement components and alterations installed. - **A shortened list:** Remaining items on your report will only consist of C3 improvement recommendations, which do not make an installation unsatisfactory. - **The next retest date:** Your documentation will confirm the recommended date for your next formal periodic inspection. ## Questions I get asked The questions I get asked most about clearing a condition report. ### Do I have to rectify C3 codes to get a satisfactory EICR? No. C3 codes are recommendations for improvement rather than dangerous defects. As David McInnes, I advise addressing C1, C2, and FI items first, as those are the codes that cause an EICR to be unsatisfactory. ### Can remedial work be completed without shutting down my whole business? In most cases, yes. I isolate individual circuits wherever possible so that other parts of your premises in Eastleigh or Segensworth remain operational while repairs take place. ### How long do I have to complete EICR remedial work? Commercial premises must address dangerous conditions quickly.
