# Out of hours emergency electrician, commercial — MCI Electrical

> Out of hours emergency commercial electrician in Eastleigh, Southampton and surrounding trade parks, provided by David McInnes at MCI Electrical.

Have you lost power or found an immediate electrical hazard at your commercial premises? MCI Electrical investigates faults, isolates unsafe equipment and carries out the electrical work needed to leave the affected area safe. The service covers businesses in Eastleigh, Whiteley, Chandler's Ford, Hedge End and Southampton.

## How this is priced

Out of hours work is charged at an out of hours rate, and you are told that rate before I set off. Any parts fitted during the visit are billed separately.
- Emergency callout (out of hours): £105/hr
- Covers on site fault isolation, diagnostic testing and immediate electrical stabilisation.
- Does not cover permanent major rewiring or full system replacement during the initial visit.
- Materials and replacement components required on site are billed separately.

## What counts as an emergency

An emergency is anything unsafe, or anything that stops the business trading: a board that has gone dead, water reaching electrics, a chiller or a till circuit off, or a machine that has taken the supply with it.
- **Tripped main boards in commercial units:** Ageing three phase distribution boards in Eastleigh trading estates or Chandler's Ford offices can trip the entire supply, halting business operations.
- **Environmental failure in dock and yard spaces:** Salt air corrosion near Southampton docks and wet weather in Hedge End trade yards cause external enclosure shorts and earth leakage faults.
- **Cold store and logistics distribution failures:** A sudden loss of refrigeration or high bay lighting circuits in Millbrook or Nursling stock warehouses risks immediate stock spoilage.

## What is and is not included

This is what an out of hours visit covers, and what is better done in daylight.

### Included
- Testing damaged circuits and distribution boards to identify the root fault.
- Isolating unsafe cables, accessories or machinery from the rest of the board.
- Bypassing broken components where safe to restore power to critical loads.
- Providing immediate temporary power connections to essential equipment.

### Not included
- Complete board upgrades or full installation rewires during the initial visit.
- Hire of specialist access machinery for high bay lighting or elevated containment.
- Fixing issues owned by the distribution network operator on the supply side.

## What to have ready when you ring

Have the location of the distribution board to hand and, if you know it, what was running when the fault happened. Where it is safe to do so, leave the affected equipment switched off.
1. **Locate your distribution board:** Ensure there is clear access to the main incoming supply and distribution boards, especially in shared premises in Segensworth or Whiteley.
2. **Note the specific symptoms:** Identify whether circuits tripped during machine startup, after rainfall on external fittings, or following switchgear operation.
3. **Confirm site access arrangements:** Arrange keys, security codes or gate clearance for logistics estates around the Southampton port or industrial parks.

## How the night ends

The installation is left safe, power is back to what matters wherever that can be done, and you have a clear note of what is temporary and what still needs finishing properly in the daytime.
- **Made safe:** Dangerous circuits are completely isolated at the board, removing immediate shock or fire hazards from the premises.
- **Supply restored where possible:** If the failure is isolated to a single branch, working circuits are switched back on to keep essential operations running.
- **A written record:** Details of the isolated fault, testing findings and immediate work completed are logged for your records.
- **The follow up quoted:** If permanent replacement parts or extensive repairs are needed, a structured quote is provided for execution during standard trading hours.

## Questions I get asked

The questions that come up about out of hours work.

### What happens if you cannot fix the fault on the spot?

If a faulty component cannot be replaced during the initial visit, I make the system completely safe and isolate the affected circuit. I will then provide a clear written estimate for permanent repair work. - David McInnes

### Can you attend shared commercial buildings?

Yes. I regularly work on shared sites in Whiteley and Chandler's Ford. I will locate the main landlord supply or tenancy board and isolate only the affected section where possible. - David McInnes

### Do you supply spare parts during out of hours calls?

Standard protective devices, fuses and basic switchgear are stocked on the vehicle for common immediate repairs.

### What if the problem is on the supply side?

If the fault lies before the main meter or on network operator equipment, I identify the issue and advise you on contacting your network distributor.
