# Shop fit out electrician, commercial — MCI Electrical

> Shop fit out electrical services in Eastleigh and Southampton by MCI Electrical. Commercial power, lighting, and testing by David McInnes.

Fitting out a new shop or refurbishing an existing retail space? MCI Electrical installs lighting, sockets, distribution, data cabling and dedicated supplies around the final layout and equipment schedule. Retail electrical work is completed across Eastleigh, Whiteley, Hedge End, Chandler's Ford and Southampton.

## How this is priced

Quoting is free, and coming out to price it is free too. The published price covers the core power, the lighting wiring, general sockets and standard emergency lighting, with supply upgrades and specialist supplies priced separately once the survey is done.
- Shop fit-out electrical: £2,400
- Published fit out pricing covers core retail power distribution, display lighting wiring, general socket outlets, and standard emergency lighting points.
- Main supply upgrades, extensive three phase modifications, or specialist extraction supplies are quoted separately after an initial site survey.

## How a fit out runs

A fit out runs to your opening date, because that is the only date that matters. I work back from it, agree when I need the space and what has to be done before I can start, then keep to that programme.
- **Town centre retail units:** Converted properties along Leigh Road in Eastleigh or Above Bar in Southampton often have borrowed circuits and altered schedules that need systematic separation before new display wiring is installed.
- **Trade counters and retail parks:** Units at Hedge End Retail Park and Whiteley Shopping Centre require display tracking, high level ambient lighting, roller shutter supplies, and dedicated extra boards for till banks.
- **Food and hospitality spaces:** Premises along Bournemouth Road in Chandler's Ford and the Botley Road corridor need dedicated circuits for commercial kitchen extraction, refrigeration, and cooking appliances.

## What is and is not included

It covers the boards and the cables feeding them, the lighting, the emergency lighting and exit signs, and the sockets and till points. Supply upgrades and specialist supplies are quoted after a survey.

### Included
- Installation of commercial distribution boards and main cables
- Wiring for display lighting, spotlights, and ambient LED panels
- Emergency lighting layout and illuminated exit signs
- General power socket outlets and till point connections
- Power connections for HVAC units, water heaters, and shutters
- Full circuit testing, inspection, and distribution board labelling

### Not included
- Civil groundworks outside the building footprint
- Upgrades to incoming supply cables owned by the network operator
- Wiring inside supplied by the tenant display cabinets or specialized machinery
- Building fabric modifications or plastering work

## Before the programme starts

Before the programme starts I want your layout drawing, your opening date and the fitting schedule if you have one, so the lighting and till points land where the shop actually needs them. If the programme slips at your end, moving my dates costs nothing.
1. **Site assessment:** David McInnes inspects the incoming electrical supply, earthing connections, consumer unit capacity, and containment routes.
2. **Load evaluation:** Calculating total electrical load against available phase capacity to prevent circuit overloads during peak operating hours.
3. **Trade coordination:** Setting work sequences with carpenters, plasterers, and ceiling contractors to ensure cables are installed before walls and ceilings are closed.

## What handover looks like

Handover means a tested installation, the emergency lighting proved, the board labelled, and the certificate in your hands the same day the work finishes.
- **A tested installation:** All newly installed final circuits, main cables, and protective devices are tested to ensure correct operation before use.
- **An accurate schedule:** The distribution board is clearly marked with a printed circuit directory identifying every connected load and location.
- **Emergency lighting signed off:** Emergency lights and exit signage undergo functional testing, with duration checks completed and logged in the site record.
- **Handover information:** You receive testing records, product instructions, and circuit schedules required for property management records.

## Questions I get asked

What shop and unit owners usually want to know before a fit out.

### Can work be scheduled outside normal opening hours?

I frequently schedule out of hours work for retail units in locations like Whiteley or Eastleigh town centre so main business operations or other building works are not interrupted.

### What happens if the main electrical supply is insufficient for new machinery?

I assess the main supply capacity during the initial visit. If your planned catering or climate control loads exceed the incoming service limit, I provide the details needed to apply for a supply upgrade with the network operator.

### Are emergency exit lights mandatory in retail fit outs?

Commercial properties require emergency lighting along escape routes and near exit doors to maintain visibility if normal power fails.

### Can separate meters be fitted for tenant electricity tracking?

Where a property is split across multiple tenancies, separate meters can be installed on the extra boards to record energy usage for individual sections.
