How this is priced

The price follows the number of emergency fittings and exit signs on site, so tell me roughly how many you have and I will quote. Quotes are free and there is no callout fee.

  • Covers the visual check, key switch functional test, and luminaire record for up to the stated count.
  • Three hour battery duration testing is quoted as a separate service depending on system size.
  • Replacement battery packs, tubes, LED modules, and complete fittings are quoted following inspection.
  • Fixed wire testing is priced on the number of boards and circuits, not by the hour.
  • Emergency lighting is priced per light, and the three hour test is priced separately.
  • Repairs are priced item by item off the report, so you choose what to do and when.
  • Work outside your trading hours costs a different rate, and I tell you what it is before I set off.
  • Quotes are free, rescheduling is free, and there is no callout fee.

What has to be tested, and how often

Escape lighting gets a short working test every month and a full test once a year, where the fittings run on battery alone for three hours. The log book is the first thing an inspector asks to see, so that is what I keep in order.

Care homes and public premises

Care homes and schools around Bishopstoke and Fair Oak keep detailed emergency lighting log books. Fire inspectors review these records to check monthly functional tests and annual duration checks.

Industrial sheds and trade counters

High bay premises in Segensworth and Hedge End Retail Park rely on escape lighting over wide floor areas. Dust accumulation and high mounting heights can conceal failed lamps or dead battery units.

Shared office suites

Commercial properties in Solent Business Park and Chandler's Ford Industrial Estate need clear escape routes through shared corridors and stairwells across separate tenancies.

What is and is not included

It covers the visual check, the key switch test and a record for every fitting. The three hour test and any replacement parts are priced on their own.

  • Visual check of diffusor casing, battery units, and charge indicators
  • Inspection of exit signage along designated escape routes

Not included

  • Supply and installation of replacement luminaires or batteries
  • Repair of damaged fixed wiring feeding the emergency switch units

Questions I get asked

The questions I get asked most about emergency lighting testing.

How often should emergency lighting be tested?+

Monthly functional tests check that each light turns on when mains power is isolated. An annual test checks that batteries operate for their full rated duration, usually three hours. I record both types in your log book.

Will testing interrupt normal business activity?+

Key switches allow individual emergency circuits to be tested without turning off normal room lighting. Where whole circuit isolation is required, I arrange testing to minimise disturbance to staff.

What happens if a battery pack fails during the test?+

The failed luminaire is logged in the report as requiring action. Replacing the internal battery pack or fitting a new unit restores the light to standard operation.

Do self contained emergency lights need log book records?+

Yes. Every self contained battery luminaire along an escape route requires testing and a record of its operational status in the fire safety log book.
