Fleet and depot charging in Eastleigh
MCI Electrical fits fleet and depot charging for van parks and yards around Eastleigh, Chandler's Ford, Hedge End, Whiteley and Southampton. We run the quote, the install and the paperwork ourselves so you deal directly with MCI Electrical throughout.
“I have worked on commercial premises across Eastleigh and Southampton since 2009. I quote the job, do the work and sign it off myself, so you always deal with the person who knows your building.”
Who books fleet charging in Eastleigh
- Yard managers, hauliers and workshop owners around Eastleigh book this when vans sit overnight with nowhere to plug in, or when a new bay on the industrial estates needs power for a mixed fleet.
- Firms on Chickenhall Lane, Barton Park and the railway side of Eastleigh want two or four posts for vans that come back after the last drop. We size the feed from the existing board so the chargers do not trip the lights in the unit.
- Garages and plant hire near Hedge End, Botley and Chandler's Ford need a dedicated bay for a recovery truck or a van with tools still on board. The work is the cable, the post and a clear isolator the night shift can use.
- Units around Southampton docks, Whiteley and Segensworth often have a row of bays against a fence with no spare ways on the board. We plan the run from the intake, not from a socket on the wall.
What is and is not included
Check this list against the yard you have now. We quote the hours for the posts, cable and board work you ask for, then we do that work.
Included
- A look at the intake, the distribution board and the bays where the vans will stand
- Cable, containment, posts or wall units and the protective devices for those chargers
- Load check so the chargers sit within the supply you already have, or a written note if the board needs an upgrade first
- Testing, labelling of the new circuits and the certificates for the install
- A walk round at the end so the person who locks the yard knows how to isolate a post
Not included
- Grant forms you send to the scheme yourself
- New concrete bases, tarmac cuts or fencing unless you book a groundworker beside us
- A standing maintenance visit; we do not sell plans
What happens on the day
You get clear company responsibility throughout from arrival to the last certificate. We work around vans that still need to leave the yard.
- 01
Arrival and isolation
We meet you or the yard lead, confirm the bays, isolate the board ways we will use and set out cable so forklifts and cars can still pass.
- 02
Fit the posts and the feed
We run the cable, mount the posts or wall units, terminate at the board and set the protection for each charger.
- 03
Test and hand over the papers
We test every new circuit, fill the certificates, show you the isolators and leave the paperwork with you before we go.
How this is priced
Fleet and depot charging installation starts from £75 an hour. That rate covers the electrician on site fitting posts, cable and the board work for your vans or yard.
- The figure is a starting price, not a fixed total. Hours depend on how many posts you need and how far the cable run is from the board.
- If the yard needs a larger distribution board or a new three phase feed, those sit on their own prices and we write them on the quote first.
- Out of hours attendance is a separate callout rate if you book work outside the usual hours.
- Fixed wire testing is priced on the number of boards and circuits, not by the hour.
- Emergency lighting is priced per light, and the three hour test is priced separately.
- Repairs are priced item by item off the report, so you choose what to do and when.
- Work outside your trading hours costs a different rate, and I tell you what it is before I set off.
- Quotes are free, rescheduling is free, and there is no callout fee.
What you get after fleet charging
You are left with working posts on the bays you named, a board that can carry them, and the papers for the install.
- Define the proposal
- The written quote names how many posts, which bays, what load each one takes and how the cable reaches the board, so the hours on site match that list.
- Grant claim and install stay apart
- The grant claim and the install quote stay as two jobs. We price the electrical work on its own so the yard cost is clear before any scheme money is talked about.
- Match any requested record
- If your landlord, insurer or fleet lead asked for circuit charts, test sheets or photos of the isolators, we fill those to the same names and bay numbers they used.
- Full certification
- You keep the installation certificates and the test results for the new charger circuits when we leave.
Where the rules come from
Read the government note on workplace charging claims and the HSE note on electrical safety at work before you book the posts.
- Workplace Charging Scheme, guidance for applicantsSets out who can claim toward workplace posts, what papers the scheme wants, and that the electrical install is quoted and certified on its own.
- HSE, electrical safety at workCovers safe isolation, live parts and what a workplace must have in place when chargers sit in a yard staff walk through.
Why customers choose MCI Electrical

Questions I get asked
These are the questions yard owners around Eastleigh ask before they book the hours.
How much does fleet and depot charging cost?+
Installation starts from £75 an hour. A short two post job on a board with spare ways is a few hours. A long run across a yard, or a board that needs new ways first, takes longer and we write that on the quote.
— David McInnes
Can you use the Workplace Charging Scheme?+
Many yards can claim toward workplace posts. We fit the chargers and give you the certificates the scheme asks for. You send the claim. We do not file it for you.
— David McInnes
Do I need three phase for depot posts?+
A couple of slow posts can sit on a strong single phase board. Several vans overnight, or faster units, usually need three phase. We check the intake in Eastleigh, Chandler's Ford, Hedge End, Whiteley or Southampton before we price the hours.
Will the chargers trip the rest of the unit?+
Not if the board and the cable are sized for the load. That is the first check. If the board is already full, a replacement or upgrade is a separate starting price from £950.
Who do I deal with on the day?+
You deal with MCI Electrical from the written quote through to installation and certification. Calls are answered at any time, while booked work follows the usual hours unless you request an out of hours callout.
