How this is priced

Quotes are free and there is no callout fee. The price covers the supply check, the protection, the cable route and the installation, with any digging or supply upgrade priced separately once I have seen the site.

  • Initial site assessments verify whether your distribution board has available headroom for EV charging loads.
  • Standard installations include dedicated circuit protection, surface containment, and mounting the socket equipment.
  • Groundwork, trenching across car parks, and major main cable upgrades are quoted separately if needed.
  • Fixed wire testing is priced on the number of boards and circuits, not by the hour.
  • Emergency lighting is priced per light, and the three hour test is priced separately.
  • Repairs are priced item by item off the report, so you choose what to do and when.
  • Work outside your trading hours costs a different rate, and I tell you what it is before I set off.
  • Quotes are free, rescheduling is free, and there is no callout fee.

What the job involves

Most of this job happens before a charger goes on the wall. I start with what your incoming supply can already carry, then work out the circuits, the cable route and where the sockets sit so they suit how your car park is actually used.

Large car parks and power capacity

Business parks in Whiteley and Hedge End often have large surface car parks with sufficient supply capacity, making charger installation straight forward compared to constrained town centre sites.

Industrial distribution boards

Units on Chandler's Ford Industrial Estate or Millbrook Trading Estate in Southampton often run older or full distribution boards. Adding charger circuits requires checking capacity before installing cable containment.

Shared office suites

In shared buildings across Eastleigh and Southampton, incoming supplies are shared. Load management devices ensure workplace charging does not overload landlord main cables.

What is and is not included

It covers the supply check, the protection, the cable route and mounting and testing the chargers. Groundwork, trenching and major supply upgrades are quoted separately.

Included

  • Site load assessment to check existing incoming supply capacity
  • Fitting dedicated circuit breakers and earth fault protection devices
  • Installing surface cable tray or conduit to the charger locations
  • Mounting wall mounted or pedestal charging sockets
  • Setting up load management devices to prevent board overload
  • Testing, commissioning and registering the installed sockets

Not included

  • Civil engineering works, surface tarmac cutting, and ground trenching
  • Upgrading utility incoming service cables or main incoming fuses
  • Making good the building finishes after cable routing

Before I arrive

It helps if I can see your distribution board and the parking spaces you have in mind, and hear roughly how many vehicles you want charging at once. If the date stops suiting you, moving it costs nothing.

  1. 01

    Access to the main switchroom

Ensure access to the main distribution board and switchroom is clear. I will need to inspect the service head and run tests on the incoming electrical board.

  2. 02

    Clear parking bays

Keep the targeted parking spaces clear of vehicles and delivery drop offs so cable containment and socket pedestals can be installed safely.

What you are left with

You are left with working charge points, tested and certified, and the certificate lands the same day the work finishes. The person who quotes it is the person who fits it and signs it off.

Commissioned charge points
Your installed EV sockets are tested, powered, and verified ready for staff, customer, or fleet vehicle connection.
A grant claim submitted
If eligible under the Workplace Charging Scheme, paperwork and socket details are submitted to support your grant claim.
Headroom on the supply
Load balancing monitors ensure your charging sockets adjust draw dynamically so your main building fuses do not trip.
Certification and records
You receive electrical installation certificates and log details for your building compliance and maintenance records.

Questions I get asked

The questions business owners tend to ask before they commit.

Can my existing distribution board handle workplace EV chargers?+

I assess your existing board capacity before starting any work. In places like School Close or Barton Park, older boards may need a dedicated enclosure or load management to avoid overloading the supply.

How does load management work for workplace charging?+

I install a current transformer clamp at your main incoming supply. If your building uses heavy machinery or heating, the system automatically slows charging rates to prevent tripping the main fuse.

Can chargers be installed in shared commercial buildings?+

Yes. Landlord consent is required, and dedicated metering or load monitoring can be installed to keep electricity usage separate between tenancies.

What is required for outdoor car park charger mounting?+

Outdoor units require weatherproof sockets, robust mechanical containment, and adequate impact protection or bollards where vehicle movement occurs nearby.
