Three phase power installation in Eastleigh

Need three phase power for machinery, equipment or a growing commercial site? MCI Electrical assesses the supply capacity, expected load, distribution and cable route before installing and testing the new circuits. The service supports workshops, warehouses and industrial premises across Eastleigh, Southampton and nearby business parks.

How this is priced

The price follows the cable route and the length of the run rather than the equipment at the end of it. Quotes are free, there is no callout fee, and you see the full figure before I start.

  • Covers installing a local rotary isolator, mounting containment, and terminating a dedicated three phase circuit from an existing distribution board.
  • Assumes the existing incoming switchboard has sufficient spare three phase capacity.
  • Structural core drilling, civil groundworks, or upgrading DNO incoming supplies require separate arrangements.
  • Fixed wire testing is priced on the number of boards and circuits, not by the hour.
  • Emergency lighting is priced per light, and the three hour test is priced separately.
  • Repairs are priced item by item off the report, so you choose what to do and when.
  • Work outside your trading hours costs a different rate, and I tell you what it is before I set off.
  • Quotes are free, rescheduling is free, and there is no callout fee.

What the job usually turns out to be

Three phase is the heavier supply most machinery runs on, and the machine itself is usually the quick part. What takes the time is the route the cable has to take to reach it, through walls, along ceilings and around everything already up there.

Machinery and trade additions

Installing dedicated 400V supplies for new machine tools, workshop compressors, or processing equipment in trading estates such as Chickenhall Lane and Segensworth.

Main cable and board expansions

Running three phase main cables from main switchrooms to extra distribution boards in shared premises across Chandler's Ford and Millbrook.

Commercial kitchen and plant supplies

Wiring heavy extraction systems, electric ovens, and refrigeration plant for hospitality and logistics units around Hedge End and the Southampton docks.

What is and is not included

Here is what a three phase installation covers, and the work that gets arranged separately.

Included

  • Mounting dedicated local isolators or rotary switches near the equipment.
  • Installing containment such as steel trunking, tray, or conduit along agreed routes.
  • Running three phase and neutral conductors sized for the total connected load.
  • Terminating connections at the distribution board and equipment isolator.
  • Testing circuit impedance, earthing continuity, and phase rotation.

Not included

  • Upgrades to the DNO service head or incoming electrical supply.
  • Civil works, trenching, or resurfacing for buried external cables.
  • Supplying or internal wiring of other people's machinery.

Before I arrive

Three things make the quote accurate: where the machine is going, the details on its rating plate, and how I can get to your distribution board. Photographs of all three are usually enough.

  1. 01

    Clear switchroom access

Clear a space around the main three phase distribution board so the enclosure can be opened safely.

  2. 02

    Identify cable routes

Ensure access to ceiling voids, containment runs, or wall routes where the new cable will run.

  3. 03

    Plan temporary shutdowns

Identify any brief power interruptions needed when connecting the new circuit to your main board.

What you are left with

A tested three phase supply, an isolator right beside the equipment so the operator can cut the power without walking to the board, and the certificate the same day the work finishes.

A proved circuit
The new three phase supply is energized, checked for correct voltage across all phases, and verified for phase rotation.
Safe isolation
A clearly labelled rotary isolator or isolating switch is mounted adjacent to the equipment for safe operational control.
An accurate schedule
The distribution board chart is updated to show the exact breaker size, cable type, and circuit designation.
The certificate
An Electrical Installation Certificate is issued recording the test results and compliance with wiring regulations.

Questions I get asked

The questions business owners usually ask before booking a three phase installation.

Do I need a three phase supply for my machinery?+

I look at the rating plate on your equipment. Heavy motors, large compressors, commercial ovens, and fast EV chargers usually require a 400V three phase connection to balance electrical load across all three incoming phases.

How long does a three phase circuit installation take?+

I plan the installation based on cable distance and mounting conditions. A simple local run from a nearby board takes less time than running containment across a high bay warehouse ceiling in Millbrook or Segensworth.

Will my current distribution board support a new three phase circuit?+

Your board must have a three pole circuit breaker space available. Older premises on estates like Woodside Avenue sometimes have full boards, which requires a board extension or extra board.

What is phase rotation and why does it matter?+

Phase rotation determines the directional spin of three phase electric motors. Testing phase sequence ensures pumps and machinery rotate in the correct direction when energized.
